NBA - Rockets' Harden a big boxing fan

PHOENIX -- When he is not busy terrorizing the NBA as one the league's most exciting players, Houston Rockets ace James Harden is apparently a big boxing fan..

While waiting to interview Harden at the US Airways Arena after the Rockets-Suns game Sunday night this writer overheard Harden telling another gentleman that he follows boxing and wouldn't mind meeting the Filipino southpaw known as the Philippines' "Pambansang Kamao" or National Fist.

The 6-foot-5 Harden, a 2-time All-Star, joins a long line of American athletes and celebrities who idolize the multi-titled Pacquiao. Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, then with the Boston Celtics, once visited Pacquiao's locker room after the Hatton fight. Actors Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale used to watch Pacquiao train at the Wild Card gym.

Pacquiao is set to fight Timothy Bradley on April 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas Nevada. The hard-punching Pinoy hopes to avenge his loss to Bradley over a year ago.

The 24-year old Harden hails from Los Angeles. He was drafted by the Thunder in the 2009 and played in Oklahoma for three seasons before being traded to Houston in October 2012. (SD)
