BORBON, CEBU--Aljun Salogaol of the Jaca Stable stopped journeyman Jerry Manganip in the fifth round of a scheduled 10-rounder in front of a packed Borbon Sports Complex here last night.
Salogaol, fighting in front of his hometown crowd, kept Manganip on the bicycle for most of the fight, and scored knockdowns in the third, fourth and fifth round all by body shots.
Borbon Mayor Neal Vergara and Vice Mayor Butch Sepulveda, in a message relayed to businessman Donnie Mangubat, said that the local government unit will again hold another boxing event following this hugely successful promotion, which was done under the SGG Sports Promotion outfit of Sammy Gello-ani.
On the undercard, SGG's Weng Haya prevailed on a technical knockout win over Rico Genon, while Marjo Borres took a unanimous decision win over Nelson Llanos.
Ricky Sismundo also decisioned Danilo Logramonte, while the debuting Mark John Yap halted Julius Cabusas in the opening round.
