World Boxing Council super lightweight champion Danny Garcia believes former champion and Mexican legend Erik ?El Terrible? Morales is a tougher foe than former WBA champion Amir Khan.
The WBC quoted Garcia who said ?Morales definitely gave me a harder fight than Khan and also gave me a chance to fight for a title. If anyone deserved a rematch, it?s Erik Morales for giving me my first chance. That is boxing respect.?
Their first title fight in which Morales failed to make the weight and Garcia took the title with a big win faces the ageing Mexican in a rematch in Brooklyn, New York on Sunday , Manila Time, in a fight card to be telecast on the popular weekly boxing show ?Big Time Bakbakan? over AKTV IBC 13.
Garcia said he thinks ?people are taking me more seriously now. It took some time for everyone to realize how serious I am. Then, in my last few fights I showed them that I think and fight like a champion, which is what I am now.?
He said ?I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to open Barclays Center in Brooklyn. They haven?t had world championship boxing in Brooklyn for more than 80 years, and it?s going to be a really special night for me and the rest of the fighters on the show.?
Garcia paid tribute to Morales as a legend and claimed he ?probably gave him more respect than I should have (in their first fight).. This time I am the champion and he is the challenger.?
The champion recalled that in their last fight he ?stood in front of him too long and let him think. I can?t let him think. I want to go in there and destroy him.?
