Rodel Mayol of the Philippines lost to IBF superflyweight champion Juan Carlos Sanchez of Mexico by ninth round knockout in a fight held in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico.
Mayol(31-6-2,22KO's), a former WBC light flyweight champion, was gunning for his second division title. This is the second successful title defense of the champion Sanchez (15-1-1, 8 KO's).
Earlier, another Filipino boxer and former world champion, Florante Condes, also lost in his title challenge in South Africa against IBO minimumweight champ Hekkie Budler by unanimous decision.
