DAVAO City – Former Philippine mini-flyweight king Flash Villacura of Davao City landed more telling blows to beat Jerry Manganip of Butuan via a unanimous decision held June 16 at the Almendras gym here.
The 27-year old Villacura, now handled by Boy “Bilaan” Acojedo Stable dominated the 10-round bout to avenge his early setback against Manganip last year in Tagum. “Villacura can still be a champion if he really wants to,” Acojedo said.
Meanwhile, Anton Olarte of Davao City outpointed Rico Genon of the Bernard Yu Stable-Butuan City to win the vacant Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) junior lightweight title also by a unanimous decision.
In other bouts, ex-PBF bantamweight king Edward Apa-ap of Maragusan outclassed Butuan’s Ronald Postrano, Davao’s Julius Alcos defeated again Jojo Rodrigo of General Santos City for the third time, Nelson Giundolan stopped Dodong Zalde in the third round by a technical knockout, Manuel Zamora of La Toscana Stable
kayoed Joseph Gasis of Cesar Lariosa Stable-Surigao via a 3rd round TKO, Wilfredo Dulay of Mimi Ricarte Stable-Surigao beat Michael Awing of Ed Barza Stable-Davao.
