MAYOL DEPARTS FOR JAPAN TOMORROW!

MANILA--Undefeated World Boxing Council no. 1 minimumweight Rodel "Batang Mandaue" Mayol departs for Tokyo, Japan today for the final phase of his training as he vies for the WBC 105-lb title against Eagle Kyowa on May 6 at the Korakuen Hall.

The 24-year-old Mayol (22-0, 17 KO's), considered as one of the brightest prospects for a world crown in the country, will be accompanied by his manager Yasuo Matsuoka and trainer Brix Flores.

Mayol, in an interview last Thursday at the gala night of the GAB Boxing Convention, indicated his readiness to take on the Japan-based Thai Kyowa, revealing that he is well on track for the fight.

Mayol, along with superstar Manny Pacquiao, was one of the awardees for boxing at the GAB Convention.

OPBF bantam champ Malcolm Tunacao, who will see action in the undercard, will soon follow the group after he secures a Japanese visa.

Tunacao will defend his title against Yasuo Kijima in the co-featured 12-round bout.
