Katsidis The Great in association with Smithy?s Gym is proud to announce the official fight card for ?The Great Returns? at the Gold coast convention and exhibition centre on August 13. Not only is it a star studded card featuring the former two time world lightweight champion Michael Katsidis, a former WBC Bantam weight world title challenger, two current Australian champions, a Commonwealth games gold medalist and Australian Olympic boxing team captain, a former Australian super middle weight champion, an Australian Golden gloves champion and a former Australian global amateur boxing champion but all fights are very evenly matched and some of Australia?s leading boxing experts are having difficulty tipping a winner for each of the 8 exciting bouts.

FIGHT ONE

Israel Kani (10W 4L 2D) VS Chris Fox (1W 5L 2D)

4 x 3 minute rounds

Former Australian Super middle weight champion and one of the stars of the hit TV show ?the Contender?, Israel Kani looks to follow up on his impressive victory over Kashif Mumtaz against the tough Chris Fox. Chris Fox whose last fight was a narrow loss to Tim Kanofski will be looking to bounce back with a win over Kani. Both fighters will be hungry for the win in this fight which will make for an exciting opening to the card.

FIGHT TWO

Knox Mohenoa (pro debut) VS Brett Peters (pro debut)

Heavyweight

4 x 3 minute rounds

Knox Mohenoa boasts and undefeated amateur record in 3 fights and will be giving his absolute best to ensure he does not get his first taste of defeat against the former Australian Global amateur boxing champion, Brett Peters. These two fighters are very exciting heavyweight prospects and the winner of this fight will take a big leap forward in their professional career.

FIGHT THREE

Ron Bradford (0W 2L) VS James Chan (5W 9L)

Catch weight 85kg

4 x 3 minute rounds

Ron Bradford yet to get a taste of victory in the professional boxing ring will be out to change that against the more experienced James Chan who has won four out of his five victories by knock out. Both of these fighters are exciting fighters and this will be another explosive four round fight.

FIGHT FOUR

Brayd Smith (pro debut) VS David Smith (2W 6L)

Featherweight

4 x 3 minute rounds

The former Australian Golden Gloves champion will be looking to break into the professional ranks with a good win over his more seasoned and experienced opponent David Smith. David has been in with some of Australia?s best and will be gunning to let his experience shine over his younger opponent.

FIGHT FIVE

Mick Shaw (27W 14L 3D) VS Brett Smith (9W 1L)

Lightweight

6 x 3 minute rounds

The veteran Mick Shaw will take on the Australian Lightweight champion Brett Smith in what will be one of the most action packed six round fights around. With the two having been scheduled to fight twice before, both fighters will be eager to finally get in the ring. Mick Shaw will be looking to add to his legacy in Australia and another win over an Australian champion will be the perfect way to do it however with Brett Smith hungry for another big name on his resume, it will be no easy task for Shaw. This will be an explosive fight!

FIGHT SIX

Nestor Rocha (23W 2L) VS Jack Asis (23W 18L 4D)

Featherweight

8 x 3 minute rounds

Nestor Rocha, a former WBC world bantam weight title challenger and currently ranked number 1 in the USA, originally over here as a sparring partner for Michael Katsidis, has decided to take on Australia?s best and in doing so has found the Australian Junior Welterweight champion Jack Asis. Asis is coming off two knockout wins over Australian champions Brett Smith and Josh King and will return to his more natural weight to take on Rocha. This is a great fight with international appeal and will open big doors on the world stage for the winner of this fight.

FIGHT SEVEN

Jarrod Fletcher (8W 0L) VS Arnel Tinampay (14W 13L 1D)

The undefeated Jarrod Fletcher is one of Australia?s most exciting prospects on the rise. The former commonwealth games gold medalist and Australian Olympic team captain will be looking for a big win on the undercard of Micahel Katsidis against his opponent from the Philippines who has never been stopped and just recently suffered a narrow points loss to Daniel Dawson. This is another step up for Jarrod and will be a brilliant match up.
