Binangonan, Rizal's Florante Condes bucked the odds to knock out RP minifly champ Elmer Gejon in the fifth round of a scheduled 12-rounder for the latter's title last Thursday in Mandaluyong City.
The power-punching Condes unleashed a wicked shot to Gejon's breadbasket, sending the latter down for good in what was expected to be a war.
"The busy-punching Gejon could not match the power of Condes. He took a body shot and crumpled to the canvas in an instant," reported Gejon's trainer Brix Flores to this writer.
The win improved Condes' record to 11 wins, 3 losses with 11 knockouts, and lines him up for big-money fights down the line.
Gejon, who took the Philippine title in early 2004, had defended the title twice before running into the dynamite-fisted Condes.
