Former Philippine bantam champ Johnny Lear makes another step towards his quest for yet another title when he takes on Jun Magsipoc in an 8-round match tonight at the Mines Elementary School grounds in Quezon City.
Lear, who temporarily stopped boxing only to resurface as a trainer and eventually announced his comeback, has been rated no. 7 by the GAB in its latest bantam rankings following his 6-round win over fellow ex-champ Joel Bauya last September 24 in Manila.
The Lear-Magsipoc showdown will serve as the chief support of the 6-bout card presented by Marty Elorde, which headlines WBO Asia Pacific minimumweight champ Benjie Sorolla in a 10-round non-title duel with Kidapawan's Carlo Besares.
The other bouts pit Rodel Tejares versus Michael Rodriguez; Ryan Bito versus Roy Jones Jr; Lino Pongan versus Joebar Damosmog; and Frankie Escaner versus Michael Landiro.
