WBO in Mabolo

On May 15, another slambang boxing event takes place in Cebu City when the "WBO in Mabolo" happens with Anthony Marcial taking on veteran Dante Paulino for the interim WBO Asia Pacific lightweight title in the main event.

The card is being promoted by SGG Sports Promotion in association with the Mabolo barangay council.

The card is just the latest of the series of events being lined up by SGG Promotions, which will make the Cebu boxing skyline doubly interesting especially with all the events also being lined up by ALA Promotions as announced earlier during a press conference with Cebu media.

Let me personally thank the WBO for its continued support and belief in Filipino boxers, despite the fact that Ronnie Nathanielsz, for reasons only known to him, continues to besmirch the reputation of the WBO. The readers, however, are intelligent enough to separate legitimate boxing journalism from gutter journalism that is dependent on the so-called "you scratch my back, i'll scratch yours" dogma.

On May 14, the WBO will also conduct an outreach program for indigent kids in Cebu City, and here's hoping that mainstream media will cover this event.

This is my first column for Philboxing.com, and I would like to thank its founder Mr. Dong Secuya for the opportunity to write for this top boxing site that is proudly Philippine-made.

I have been busy lately with my political tasks, but will have more time to write in the next few weeks as the elections come to a close.

This column will hopefully help readers distinguish between what is factual and what is PR job being peddled by writers, and although I dont claim to be the best thing that ever happened to Philippine boxing, my little exposure in the boxing fraternity will hopefully tide me over on this daunting task.

See you next time!
