"Sonsona es fuerte, pero le ganar?"
Alejandro “Payasito” Hernandez of Mexico vowed to beat reigning WBO superflyweight champ “Marvelous” Marvin Sonsona of Gen. Santos City, Philippines. Hernandez is reported to be well focused during the final days of his preparation for his second world title shot.
In Spanish language articles written by Alfredo Jaime Gomez posted on the WBO website and notifight.com, Hernandez decribed Sonsona as “ a young, left-handed boxer. Difficult, and battle-hardened as all the Filipinos, but I will win anyway. I will fight with a lot of intelligence, my experience is a point to my favor”.
Hernandez (22W-7L-1D, 11KO's) has never been knocked out. He previously won the WBC Mundo Hispano, WBO Latino and WBC Caribbean flyweight titles. In 2008, he lost in his first attempt to win a world title against WBO flyweight king Omar Narvaez of Argentina by unanimous decision.
Sonsona will try to duplicate the scintillating performance of another Gensan southpaw, Manny Pacquiao. Marvin's cousin, Eden Sonsona also fought in the undercard of Pacquiao-Cotto and knocked out Eilon Kedem in two rounds.
The 19 year old Sonsona (14W-0 L, 12 KO’s) won the WBO superflyweight title from Jose “Carita” Lopez of Puerto Rico by 12 round unanimous decision in Casino Rama last September. This was the first time Sonsona went past the fifth round. Sonsona made history by becoming the second youngest Filipino world boxing champion after jr.welterweight Morris East.
Ciso "Kid Terrible" Morales, the number 9 ranked superbantamweight contender of the WBO, will face another Mexican, Miguel Angel Gonzales Piedras in the undercard. The fight is billed as RUMBLE IN RAMA X and will be held in Ontario, Canada.
Philippine TV coverage will be on November 22 ( R.P. Time) courtesy of Solar Sports and GMA.
