Cebuano pugs dominate Asian boxing ratings

Four Filipino boxers reign as champions in their respective weight divisions in Asia according to the latest ratings of two Asian boxing organizations.

Cebu City’s boxing sensation Rodel Mayol leads the list as Mini Flyweight champion of the Orient Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF). Mayol is also rated as No. 2 WBC mini flyweight.

Two other Cebuano boxers are listed as champions in the OPBF—Super Featherweight Randy Suico and Welterweight Rev Santillan. The two are also world rated contenders with Suico listed as No. 2 and Santillan No. 9 in the WBC.

Dennis Laurente of Davao City is the OPBF champion in the lightweight division. He is also listed as No. 4 in his division in the Pan Asia Boxing Association (PABA).

Five Filipinos are the No. 1 challengers in their weight divisions by the OPBF. They are: Elmer Gejon(Mini Flyweight), Bert Batawang(Light Flyweight), Z.Gorres(Super Flyweight), Alberto “Bobby” Pacquiao(Super Featherweight) and Dondon Sultan(Welterweight).

Cebu City’s Dindo Casta?ares is PABA NO. 1 Super Lightweight while Elmer Gejon is the No. 1 Mini Flyweight of PABA.

Other highly rated Filipino boxers in the OPBF and PABA are:

OPBF—Jeffrey Onate, No. 3 Featherweight, Jimrex Jaca, No. 4 Featherweight, Fernando Montilla, No. 2 Lightweight.

PABA—Jun Arlos No.3 Mini Flyweight, Rocky Fuentes, RP No. 4 Mini Flyweight, Allan Ranada, No. 3 Light Flyweight, Celso Danggod, No. 4 Flyweight, Eric Barcelona, No. 2 Super Flyweight, Pedrito Laurente, No. 4 Super Bantamweight, Michael Domingo, No. 5 Super Bantamweight, Jeffrey Onate, No. 3 Featherweight, Arnel Poras, No. 5 Featherweight, Bert Abapo, No. 3 Super Featherweight and Fernando Montilla, No. 4 Lightweight.
