ZAMBOANGA CITY--Reigning WBO Oriental featherweight champion Eric Canoy of the Blue Stallion Gym of Congressman Erbie Fabian arrived here on Sunday after two months of serious training at the world-class ALA Gym of Cebu.
Canoy, who is now at a perfect 126 lbs, will defend his title in what will be the biggest boxing event here on Sunday, July 27, opposite three-time world title challenger Terdsak "Pitbull" Jandaeng of Thailand's Kokiet Gym.
Canoy, the former Atlanta Olympian, arrived in Zamboanga City with trainer Danny Bactol, and was immediately whisked into a waiting vehicle by Fabian's man Friday Bong Casimiro.
Canoy's other trainer Lamberto Entice, who was given the go-signal by sportsman Antonio L. Aldeguer to assist Canoy, is scheduled to plane in on Sunday.
The winner of the Canoy-Jandaeng showdown is most likely going to land a big fight in the United States as his next bout, says WBO Asia Pacific chairman Leon Panoncillo.
Team Jandaeng is slated to arrive in the country on Wednesday, July 23, just in time for the press conference, weigh-in, and other promotional events leading up to the fight.
