Rio Olympian Charly Suarez of the Philippines notched his 17th win to remain undefeated after a unanimous decision victory over California's Luis Coria on the undercard of the Jared Anderson vs Ryad Merhy at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas Saturday night (Sunday in Manila) on a Top Rank / ESPN card.
The judges scores were 77-74, 77-74 and 76-75 all in favor of Suarez.
Suarez was too slick for the aggressive Coria beating the American to the punch all night with effective counter punching and head and body combinations. A last ditch effort by Coria in the final 8th round caught the backing out Suarez with a straight left to the chin that sent the Filipino's back towards the ropes with his left hand touching the canvas for a knockdown. But it was too little too late for Coria to turn the tables on Suarez who was comfortably ahead at the beginning of the final round.
Suarez now improves to 17-0-0, 9KOs with while Coria dropped to 15-7-0, 7KOs.
