PNP/Cavite bet Mark Russel Salera rules Pasig standard chess championship

PHILIPPINE NATIONAL POLICE (PNP) top chess player Mark Russel Salera ruled via tiebreak the 1st Starshots Coffee Standard Tournament 1799 and below held last Saturday and Sunday in Pasig City.

Salera, tied for first to fourth places with Kyle Ochoa, Francis Talaboc and Christian Mendoza with 5.5 points apiece in the 60 minutes time control event organized by NA Amelito Reyes. With the highest tie break points, Salera took the title while Ochoa, Talaboc and Mendoza finished second, third and fourth places, respectively.

On his way to the title, Salera, a member of the star-studded Professional Chess Association of the Philippines-Cavite Spartans, beat Jay-ar Bautista (Round 1), Macwaine Molina (Round 2), Mar Aviel Carredo (Round 3), Kirk Anthony Vidad (Round 4), and Ervil Villa (Round 6). He split the point with Remark Bartolome (Round 5).

Rounding up to the top eight who got 5.0 points each were Carredo (5th place), Richard Haiden Alarma (6th place), Jay Fortunado (7th place) and Rafiel Irvin Lacorte (8th place).-Marlon Bernardino-
