MANILA---Hans Lee C. Villorente is set to compete in the 2nd AQ Prime FIDE Standard Chess Open Tournament to be held on August 19 to 21 at the Robinsons Metro East Level 3 in Pasig City.
"I hope to do well in this prestigious event," said the 13-year-old Nauring, Pandan, Antique native Villorente, an incoming Grade 8 student at the Regional Science High School for Region VI.
Villorente who learn the rudiment of chess at the age of 4 is the 2022 Batang Pinoy Silver Medallist (Standard event) which held in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.
The event, backed up by AQ Prime Proprietor/President Atty. Aldwin Alegre under the auspices of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines, offers a top purse of P10,000.
"The goal of the event is to help our young chess players in particular, and also in the Philippines in general. We want them to become globally competitive not just in this sport but also in their daily lives.” said AQ Prime Proprietor/President Atty. Aldwin Alegre, former Emilio Aguinaldo College varsity chess player.
Other woodpushers vying in the 3-day event are WGM Janelle Mae Frayna, IM Angelo Young, IM Jose Efren Bagamasbad, WIM Marie Antoinette San Diego and inaugural champion FM Christian Mark Daluz.-Marlon Bernardino-
