MANILA---Fide Master David Elorta played International Master Richillieu Salcedo III to a draw to rule the AQ Prime 1st FIDE Rated Chess Tournament dubbed as “The Moving Scenes” held at the 3rd Floor, Bldg. B, SM Sucat in Paranaque City last Sunday.
The 39-year-old Sta Ana Manila resident Elorta collected 6.5 points in six wins and one draw to win the seven round tournament.
For his feat, Elorta pocketed the top purse worth P30,000 and a trophy courtesy of AQ Prime CEO Atty. Aldwin Alegre in a one-day event organized by the Kamatyas Chess Club, headed by International Master Roderick Nava.
He ended up ahead of Fide Master Austin Jacob Literatus and International Master Richillieu Salcedo III, who ended up second and third respectively with 6.0 points apiece.
Rounding out the top 10 were Fide Master Narquingden Reyes, Narquingel Reyes, International Master Paulo Bersamina, Grandmaster Darwin Laylo, National Master Emmanuel Emperado, Melito Ocsan Jr. and Sherwin Tiu.
Adjudged category winners were Jhulo Goloran (top non-master), Julian Paul Querubin (top unrated), Chester Neil Reyes (top junior), Dennis San Juan (top senior), John Peter Allen Cabales (top kiddie) and Rhea Jean Canino (top lady).-Marlon Bernardino-
