Vic Saludar of the Philippines retained his WBO world minimumweight title after dominating Japanese challenger Masataka Taniguchi Tuesday night at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan. Judge Luis Ruiz had it 118-110 for Saludar while judges Chris Tellez and Surat Soikrachang each scored 117-111 also in favor for the Filipino defending champion. Veteran referee Kenny Bayless was the third man in the ring.
The victory was Saludar's first defense of the title he won from Ryuya Yamanaka of Japan last July 13, 2108 in Kobe and he has now improved his record to 19 wins and 3 losses with 10 wins coming inside the distance.
The Tokyo-based Taniguchi, 25, suffered the third loss of his career and dropped to 11-3-0, 7KOs.
