NBA -- Lakers buy-out former Bull Luol Deng

LOS ANGELES. The Los Angeles Lakers and Luol Deng have agreed amicably to part ways.

As reported by multiple media outlets including ESPN, the buy-out deal will pay Deng $7.5 million less than the two years and $38 million left in his four-year $72 million deal signed last July 2016.

The arrangement is beneficial to both parties. The Lakers will save some cash while creating more salary cap space to pursue free agents in the summer of 2019. On the other hand, Deng is given the freedom to continue his career elsewhere after playing just one of the Lakers' 82 regular season games last season.

Last season, Deng collected $208,536 per game.

The 7th overall in the 2004 NBA Draft, the 6-foot-6, 220-pound Deng was originally picked by the Phoenix Suns before being traded to the Chicago Bulls on draft night. He ended up playing for the Bulls for ten seasons before moving on with the Miami Heat, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Lakers.

Deng is a veteran of 15 seasons and has averaged 15.6 points. 6.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 880 regular season games.
