CHICAGO -- After three straight losses, the Philippines recorded its first win at the AIBA World Boxing Championships in Chicago, IL, a Beijing 2008 qualifier, when Violito Payla of Mindanao stopped Andrew Selby of Whales 2:30 pm Eastern Time.
The twenty point mercy rule went into effect in the third round as the fight was stopped when Payla racked up twenty-four points to Selby?s four. Propelling the fast handed display was the chant of ?Phi-lip-pines!? lead by Philippine and Chicago Pinoys. The pro-Philippine crowd chimed in as people from various countries joined the contagious chant.
