LAS VEGAS -- Two Filipino fighters see action ahead of the big clash on Saturday as Bernabe Concepcion and Mercito Gesta take on Latino fighters in a card today at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.
Promoted by Top Rank and televised on Versus channel, the main event will feature WBO superflyweight champ Fernando Montiel defending his title for the fifth time against Luis Melendez.
The Catanduanes-raised Concepcion, fighting out of the Aljoe Jaro Stable, will take on Salvador Garcia in a non-title clash over ten rounds.
Concepcion, who holds the NABF superbantam crown, came in at 123 lbs, while Garcia tipped the scales at 123.5 lbs.
The unbeaten Gesta (11-0-1, 3 KO's) who hails from Mandaue City, is set to collide with Ecuadoran Carlos Vinan.
Today's bouts will serve as a prelude to this Saturday's mammoth clash featuring Manny Pacquiao in a rematch with Mexican icon Marco Antonio Barrera.
Aljoe Jaro, who manages Concepcion, has revealed that if his ward comes out victorious today, his next assignment would be on the undercard of the Florante Condes-Muhammad Rachman rematch set sometime end of November.
