CHICAGO -- At age 34, Tony Parker proved on Thursday night that he still got plenty left in the tank.
The Spurs point guard, a 16-year NBA veteran, had a spectacular 27 points on 11-for-14 shooting to lead San Antonio to a nail-biting 103-96 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. The Game 6 win at a loud FedEx Forum ended the series at 4-2.
San Antonio trailed 50-45 at the half before turning the tables in the final 24 minutes, outscoring Memphis, 58-46. Trailing 90-87 with 4:18 remaining in the fourth quarter, the Spurs finished the Grizzlies with a 16-6 run.
Kawhi Leonard had another productive evening, 29 points and 9 rebounds, while LaMarcus Aldridge, who had been fairly quiet in the series, came to life with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Patty Mills chipped in 10 off the bench.
With Memphis out of the way, the second-seeded Spurs face the free-wheeling Houston Rockets, ranked 3 in the West, in a best-of-7 series that begins Monday night (Tuesday AM in Manila) at the AT&T Center.
Mike Conley Jr led the vanquished Grizzlies with 26 points and 5 assists. Marc Gasol had 18 points and 6 rebounds while Zach Randolph added 13. Vince Carter finished with 12.
"To their (the Spurs) credit, they won more games than we did. But it definitely wasn't from a lack of competition on our part. I can sleep at night knowing my guys battled and competed their tails off." Grizzlies head coach David Fizdale told the Associated Press.
