CONFUSION OVER TELECAST OF CONDES-RACHMAN TITLE FIGHT

The former business manager of Manny Pacquiao, Rod Nazario, who is also part of the team of newly crowned IBF minimum weight champion Florante Condes says he met with NBN officials headed by General Manager Joey Isabelo on Friday and came to terms to telecast the title fight between Condes and Indonesian Muhammad Rachman on July 22 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. over the government network.

Nazario and his partners in the weekly boxing show “In This Corner” Moy Lainez and Gerry Garcia had earlier met with Condes’ manager Aljoe Jaro who committed the TV rights to Nazario. Lainez revealed that Aljoe Jaro even asked for and received an advance of P100,000 from the agreed upon rights fee in the presence of Condes.

Lainez said Nazario was supposed to receive the fight tape from Aljoe Jaro sometime today. He said the plan was to air highlights of Condes’s previous fights on “In This Corner” where Condes earned a name for himself. The show is will also be replayed on the sports and entertainment cable station Viva Prime.

The planned telecast on NBN created some confusion following a report on Philboxing.com that the fight was to be telecast by Solar Sports on RPN 9 at 10:00 a.m. on July 22 side-by-side with the IBF flyweight title fight between Nonito Donaire and Vic Darchinyan.

This is viewed as an obvious attempt to undercut the giant broadcast network ABS-CBN which will telecast the Czar Amonsot-Michael Katsidis WBO lightweight championship bout followed by the blockbuster battle between Bernard Hopkins and Winky Wright and is regarded as a disservice to Filipino fight fans.
