CHARLOTTE -- On the night his old man was honored, Stephen Curry dropped 40 points including 8 triples to lead Golden State Warriors to a 116-99 trashing of the Charlotte Hornets to remain unblemished at 20-0.
Dell Curry, who played 10 years with the Hornets and is the franchise's all time leader in games played, points scored and 3 pointers made was honored at halftime. His son, Stephen, the NBA's reigning MVP, came out of the locker room to watch and listen to the presentation.
After that, it was back to business for the young Curry as he went on a tear and scored 28 points including 5 triples in the third quarter, an explosion that turned the game into a blowout.
"It was a cool atmosphere to play in, especially on top of my dad's ceremony" he said. "To play like I did and get the win was special," Curry said.
The third period ended with the Warriors leading by 21 points, 93-72, and the point guard's services were no longer required for the remainder of the contest. Overall, Curry shot 14 of 18 FGs including 8 of 11 from 3-point range.
The other half of the Splash Brothers, Klay Thompson set the tone for the Warriors in the opening period scorching 15 points as they raced to a 15 point lead early.
"The way that Klay started to get us going was huge. Draymond impacting the game the way he does every night, we kind of fed off that from the beginning." the reigning MVP said. "It says all about our focus night in and night out. We don't always play our best game but we just try to find different ways to win."
Recently named coach of the month, interim coach Luke Walton said "We don't focus on the streak, we do't talk about it a bunch in the locker room. We came in tonight with a game plan. We're not focusing on the actual streak, I think that's why we're able to keep racking up the wins."
Thompson finished with 21 points while Green grabbed 11 rebounds and 9 assists for the Warriors. Nic Batum topscored for the Hornets with 17 points, Kemba Walker, completely outplayed by Curry went 2-out of-16 and finished with 4 points. Big man Al Jefferson did not play due to left calf strain and will be out for at least two weeks.
The Warriors will try to continue to extend their wining streak when they travel to Toronto on Saturday to tackle on the 12-7 Raptors.
The Hornets who dropped to 10-8 will face the 11-5 Bulls in Chicago on Saturday.
