LOS ANGELES -- Boxing superstar, WBA, IBO and WBC Interim Middleweight World Champion GENNADY ?GGG? GOLOVKIN (33-0, 30 KOs) and IBF Middleweight World Champion power-puncher DAVID LEMIEUX (34-2, 31 KOs) of Quebec, Canada held a press conference today at the Conga Room of The LA Live in Downtown Los Angeles to promote their upcoming middleweight unification bout.
Golovkin vs. Lemieux is one of the most anticipated fights for the Middleweight Unified World Championship and is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17 at the Mecca of Boxing, Madison Square Garden. The championship event will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.
Meeting face to face for the first time as opponents at the same presscon were WBC light Flyweight champion Roman Gonzalez of Nicaragua (47-0-0, 37KO) and Filipino Hawaiian, Brian Viloria of Waipahu, Hawaii.
Viloria, it is said will test the limits of the Nicaraguan. Apparently the champion has yet to meet a fighter of Viloria?s punching power and tons of experience. And, would not be easy for him. The fact that he is having problems finding quality spar mates up in the mountains of Big Bear up in San Bernardino will not help either. Those picked as Gonzalez? spar mate?s can't come to California due to visa problems except one, Henry Maldonado.
Viloria on the other hand has none of that issue. There are always tons of fighters training at the famed Wildcard Gym of Freddie that finding great spar mates for Viloria is easy.
