In a highly anticipated bout in Houston, Mexican star Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (41-1-1, 31KO) (L) from Guadalajara, Mexico, stepped the scales at 154.5 lbs while his opponent James Kirkland (32-1, 28KO) (R) of nearby Austin, Texas, also came in at 154.4 lbs for their 12-round super welterweight battle Saturday night at the Minute Maid Park Arena in Houston.
The co-main event was canceled because Frankie "Pitbull" Gomez was unable to make the super lightweight limit of 140 pounds in his fight with Humberto "La Zorrita" Soto.
