Another former basketball player ? Jonas Mariano, son of legendary Jaime Mariano ? fell victim to a stroke.
Mariano, according to his father, collapsed due to stroke last November 18 and has been confined at the St. Luke?s Hospital-Global City since then.
That was 10 days before PBA great Samboy Lim, likewise collapsed last Friday while playing with fellow cage legends at the Ynares Sports Complex in Pasig City.
Jonas, 44, was a mainstay of La Salle in the UAAP and a management graduate of the same school before continuing his playing career in the amateur commercial leagues where he earned tickets to play for several national teams.
Jonas, a father of four boys with wife Elaine, was picked by then Robert Jaworski-coached Ginebra San Miguel during the PBA drafting season in 1994 but a career-ending injury prevented him from even starting a pro-career.
The elder Mariano, many-time member of the Philippine teams, is appealing his son?s former teammates, alumni of La Salle and friends in the local basketball community for prayer and support.
