NEW YORK -- For the New York Knicks, Monday night must have felt like deja vu after they lost to the Atlanta Hawks for the second time in three nights, this time a 91-85 decision at the Madison Square Garden.
Despite out rebounding the Hawks 40-30, and holding them to 38 percent shooting, the Knicks still couldn't beat the team that topped them, 103-96, last Saturday at the Philips Arena.
Carmelo Anthony had 25 points, seven assists and nine rebounds for the Knicks while Iman Shumpert finished with 18. Tim Hardaway Jr and J.R. Smith logged 15 and 12 points respectively while Amar'e Stoudemire grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Hawks shot 28 free throws against the Knicks' 12 and Paul Millsap led the way with 19 points. Kyle Korver recovered from a cold start and ended with 17 and Dennis Schroder added 14 points and four assists.
"Defensively he had a presence on the ball and it was getting in the paint and creating problems either finishing for himself or creating open shots," Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said about Schroder after the game.
New York hopes to end its five-game home losing streak on Wednesday night against the Orlando Magic, 2-5. The Hawks head back home and play the Utah Jazz, 3-5, in Atlanta Tuesday night. (BP)
