SISNORIO TO RECEIVE A PITTANCE FROM THAI INSURANCE

Lito Sisnorio who died following brain surgery conducted after he suffered a fourth round knockout in a terrible mismatch against former WBC flyweight champion Chatchai Sasakul last Friday will get what amounts to a pittance from the much talked about boxers insurance.

Well known boxing writer Scott Mallon informed Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today that the family of the 24 year old Sisnorio would receive 100,000 baht which amounts to around P135,000 from insurance. Mallon comments on the amount saying “not much for a human life.”

By present day standards the money would only be sufficient to cover burial expenses.

Thai promoter Piyarat Vachirantanawong who allowed such a gross mismatch to take place had earlier told Bangkok Post columnist Edward Thangarajah that they would “get in touch with his (Sisnorio’s) nearest relative and ensure that they are compensated. Lito fought in our program and it is our duty to look after his interests.”

Mallon also reported that Sasakul “is really distraught and has been praying for Lito at the temple.” Sasakul is a buddhist.

In an effort to assuage the feelings of those angered by the mismatch in which Sisnorio moved up to fight Sasakul (58-3, 37 KO’s) at the catch-weight of 116 pounds Piyarat said Sisnorio was “a cheerful character and a good personality. Boxing will miss him. Its really a tragic incident.”
