DAVAO CITY - Hometown hero Jerwin ?The Pretty Boy? Ancajas stopped Petchwanchia Sor Visetkit of Thailand in 2:16 of the first round to capture the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) Pan Pacific bantamweight title last Saturday night at the USEP gym in Bo. Obrero.

Ancajas, who is now handled by the MP Promotions, first knocked down this Thai rival early in the opening round with left-right combinations before finally sending down Visetkit with a right jab on the midsection for the knockout.

?Hindi talaga namin plano i-knockout. Pero nakita kasi ni coach Nonoy (Neri) na mahina sa katawan kaya itinuloy ko na,? said Ancajas in a post-fight interview after receiving his belt from Thai boxing promoter Naris Singwangcha.

Ancajas, who is currently ranked IBF no. 3 contender, improved his ring record to 20 wins with 11 knockouts, one loss and one draw while Visetkit suffered hi s seventh loss in 21 fights.
?His next fight might be in Macau against a Mexican to determine who will fight the No. 1 contender for the IBF world title,? said Neri, main trainer of the MP Boxing Gym in Davao City.
Jonel ?The Pal? Dapidran, nephew of WBO welterweight king Manny Pacquiao, punished Yoshinobo Arai of Tokyo, Japan with his vicious left-right jabs to score a technical knockout in the 4th round of a scheduled six-rounder.

Arai suffered a nasty cut on his left eye due to the stinging jabs of Dapidran in the second round. The Japanese fighter, however, remained on his attack by throwing wild punches despite the constant blood flowing from the cut.

Ring physician Edgar Tan finally halted the fight after the fourth round to protect Arai from further harm.

Two other fights also both ended via the short route. Aston Palicte of MP Promotions stopped Jovel Villegas of Elorde Stable-Paranaque in 1:02 of the first round of a tenner while Romeo Jakosalem of MP Promotions stopped Elmer Legaria of Lopez Stable-Glan in 1:53 of the second round.

All the four knockout winners each received a bonus of US$200 cash from Singwancha.

Four other boxers under MP Promotions also prevailed against their separate rivals in the undercard of the ?Tibay ng Pinoy 3? boxing card presented by the MP Promotions USA LLC and GMA 7.
Jay-Ar ?Hitman? Inson won by a convincing unanimous decision against Abduldiu Harada of Bohol. Marivlou ?The King? Aballe outpointed Ronald Garcia of Koronadal City by UD; John Philip Fuentes beat Kim Dangan of Iligan by UD. Genesis Libranza landed a right cross to stop Paolo Perono of Gen. Santos City in 2:30 of the first round.

Jaysever Abcede of Bukidnon won by a UD over Orly Silvestre of Mayor Yap Stable-Glan, while the opening bout between MP Promotion's Dande de Claro and GenSan's Dingdong Qui?ones ended in a majority draw.

The free to the public boxing card was promoted by the Joven Sports Promotion in association with the Mitsubishi Superstores (Southeast Mitsubishi), Cerritos Mitsubishi, Hurlington Beach Mitsubishi and Victorville Mitsubishi. It is sponsored by The Royal Mandaya Hotel, City Government of Davao and Rep. Manny Pacquiao of Saranggani Province. - LITO DELOS REYES
