NBA -- Knicks look to close gap as playoff race tightens
By Raman Sharma PhilBoxing.com Tue, 11 Mar 2014
NEW YORK -- The New York Knicks (24-40) will host the struggling Philadelphia 76ers (15-47) Monday night at Madison Square Garden.
On paper, it would appear as a matchup between two lottery teams. However, given the Knicks' recent three game win streak and the Atlanta Hawks (26-35) recent slide in the standings, this game is shaping up to be pivotal for the Knicks.
Philadelphia has lost 16 consecutive games and has not won a game since January 29th, when they barely beat the Celtics in Boston 95-94. The Sixers will look to turn things around and avoid crawling closer to the franchise record 20 straight losses which occurred during the 1972-1973 season.
The Knicks seem energized by recent talks of NBA legend Phil Jackson returning to the team with which he won his first championship as a player in 1973. Jackson has been in talks with Knicks brass about a possible front office position as Knicks Team President of Basketball Operations.
The Knicks are in 10th place in the Eastern Conference, 3 1/2 games behind the 8th place Atlanta Hawks who have lost six games in a row and lost 9 of their last 10 overall. The ninth place Detroit Pistons sit a half game ahead of the Knicks with a record of 24-39.
The Knicks and Sixers will tipoff Monday night at 7:30pm EST from Madison Square Garden.
