NBA -- Knicks make sweet music at home against Jazz By Raman Sharma PhilBoxing.com Mon, 10 Mar 2014 ![]() NEW YORK - Knicks make sweet music at home, beat Jazz, 108-81 photo caption: Carmelo Anthony of the New York Knicks drives to the basket against the Utah Jazz' Gordon Hayward Friday night at Madison Square Garden. The New York Knicks entered Madison Square Garden on Friday night with a string of win-able home games on the horizon, including tonight's matchup with the visiting Utah Jazz. The Knicks won their second straight game after dropping their previous seven consecutive games. The Knicks will need a big finish to end the season if they are serious about making a return to the post-season. Knicks All Star forward Carmelo Anthony scored 18 of his game-high 29 points in the first quarter as the Knicks opened a commanding 39-22 lead in the period. Anthony converted a rare 4-point-play and also added a season-high 8 assists to his stat sheet. Anthony was given some much needed rest from his injured shooting hand and a NYC winter cold, as he only played three quarters with the Knicks ahead by 20+ points for most of the fourth quarter. The Knicks' Amare Stoudemire has continued to excel in the starting lineup as of late. Reporters wondered after the game why the coaching staff had not included him in the lineup earlier in the season. JR Smith showed a sweet touch from beyond the arc, nailing five threes, and contributing 17 points. Gordon Hayward and Alec Burks each scored 18 for the Utah Jazz, who dropped their fifth straight game. A frustrated Richard Jefferson told reporters that the long minutes have taken a toll on the younger members of the team and their fatigue was evident towards the end of the game. Both teams will be in action again tomorrow, Saturday. The Utah Jazz will look to turn things around in Philadelphia against a young Sixers team. The New York Knicks will look to build on their two game win streak as they travel to Cleveland to take on All Star Game MVP Kyrie Irving and the Cavaliers on Saturday night.
