PACQUIAO'S WIN, THE INSPIRATION OF THE NATION By Maloney L. Samaco PhilBoxing.com Fri, 22 Nov 2013 The typhoon ravaged Philippines needs an inspiration to boost the spirits of those who suffered the wrath of Yolanda. Thousands of homeless and hungry families, some of them lost their loved ones who perished during the storm surge, need solace. No amount of relief goods and care could easily revive their broken spirits amidst the ravages of nature. Before the strongest typhoon ever to make landfall, the devastating earthquake shook Bohol and Cebu bringing buildings to the ground including historical edifices such as churches. Then there was the man-made calamity in Zamboanga initiated by the MNLF Misuari faction which sought fear and chaos among the populace in Mindanao. Another mess the country is known for was the alleged misuse of government funds intended for legislative discretionary allocation, the disputable pork barrel. Investigations here and there rocked the attention of the international community hauling criticisms over Congress and the tagged pork barrel queen. The Philippines has been in the world headlines because of all these negative occurrence in a country aspiring to soar high from devastation. We want a moral booster to hold our heads high and unite the country to move forward in the thick of its ruins. A convincing win by Manny Pacquiao this Sunday over Mexican-American Brandon Rios will bequeath the nation a beautiful Christmas gift, a worthy giveaway in the middle of grief and a valuable present to the country who needs heroes in times of crisis. Expect again traffic to be slack, restaurants and public places showing the fight to be filled with fight fans, crimes turning zero, gymnasia crowded with people rooting for the National Fist, and inhabitants in typhoon stricken areas with no electric power to be seeking for available TV sets with generators to get a glimpse of the country's fighting congressman. Even with two succeeding defeats, Pacquiao is still the people's champion of the Philippines and the greatest boxer Asia has ever produced. Throughout the controversies in politics, religion, brutal KO loss to Juan Manuel Marquez, and questionable loss to Timothy Bradley, he is still the boxing icon and the sports deity idolized by many all over the world. Manny's popular statement, "We will rise again" means he together with the whole country will surge again. On Sunday, November 24, he will exhilarate his people to rejuvenate from devastation.
