Rolly Lunas makes weight, dedicates fight to his countrymen By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Sat, 16 Nov 2013 Filipino bantamweight Rolly Lunas of San Diego by the way of Tabaco City, Albay and opponent, Chris Avalos of Lancaster, California both made the weight limit one day prior to their prime time match in Nevada tomorrow night (Sunday morning in the Philippines). Lunas weighed 120.5 lbs., one and a half pound lighter than the agreed super bantam limit while Avalos was right on the mark at 122 lbs. The pair?s 10 round contest will be the co-headlining bout tomorrow at the AVI Resort and Casino in Laughlin, Nevada, a town some 90 miles south of Las Vegas. They will be paired with a super featherweight match between undefeated Jose Felix Jr. of Mexico and Santos Benavides of Nicaragua. The bouts will be shown in the continental US and in South America via the Solo Boxeo Tecate Top Rank Live Boxing series on American- Spanish network, UniMas. It will air live at 11 pm ET. It is promoted by Bob Arum?s Top Rank Boxing. Lunas (34-8-1, 20 KOs) played down the slight disparity in weight against the bigger Avalos (22-2, 16 KOs) and he expressed no hesitancy that he will be able to match his opponent Saturday night. Lunas stated that he has been sparring against bigger sparring partners in preparation for this fight. ?Ready na ako talaga. Pinaghandaan ko talaga itong laban ko. ?(I am really ready. I really prepared for this fight.) Lunas told Philboxing.com after the weigh-in. The Bicolano fighter dedicates this fight to his suffering countrymen in the Philippines, victims of Typhoon Haiyan, one of the strongest storms to have hit earth. ?Sa mga kababayan ko, lalong lalo na sa mga nasalanta ng bagyo sa atin, para sa inyo ang laban na ito.?
