NBA -- Iguodala rescues Warriors against Thunder By Ryan Medida PhilBoxing.com Sat, 16 Nov 2013 ![]() OAKLAND - Andre Igoudala of the Golden State Warriors (6-3) nailed a turn-around jumper over Thabo Sefolosha with 2.3 seconds left on the clock to give his team the 116-115 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder (5-3) Thursday night at the Oracle Arena. Russell Westbrook (31 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals) bottomed a cold-blooded three pointer with time expiring late fourth quarter to give his team the lead after being down by as many as 14 points in the fourth quarter. He shot the ball 2.3 seconds too soon, because that was all the time Mark Jackson needed to draw up a play after the time out. Coach Jackson showed trust to one of the newest addition to the team Andre Igoudala (14 points and 9 assists) to take the buzzer beater shot and He did not disappoint. ?The play was actually for Andre (Iguodala). They overplayed him. He has a high basketball IQ. He read it, reacted, stayed patient, got the catch and made an incredible shot. Just a big win for my guys. That last timeout, it was dark in that huddle. Proud of my guys because we fought back and found a way to get a victory even when things seemed to be pretty bad," Warriors head coach Mark Jackson said after the game.\ ?They were down. Upset. You look up and say ?How did they climb all the way back? How?? You start beating yourself up. That?s when you have a moment. They looked at each other and realized there is still time left and we can execute because we work on it every day. I think it?s a great lesson for us because you can tell yourself that but it?s another thing to experience it.? Jackson said on their final huddle after the Westbrook 3-pointer: Andre Iguodala on the play at the end of the game ?That wasn?t the play. The play was for me to get it, fake the handoff to Klay [Thompson] and then look for my shot, but they switched. Thabo [Sefolosha] is a great defender. He denied me the top side, so I took a page out of Kobe [Bryant?s] book cutting back doors, that baseline shot. I?ve seen it a million times, and it worked for me for once.? Thompson scored 27 points and Curry had 22 points and nine assists for a Warriors team that made 14 of 23 shots from 3-point range. Klay Thompson on Russell Westbrook's go-ahead shot: ?It hurt, obviously. That?s my fault, I?ve got to learn from that and be up on him. I didn?t realize there was two seconds left. I thought he?s so athletic, he?s going to drive to the rim or something. He took about a 30-footer and in that situation I?ve got to just get up on him and trust my teammates behind me. It hurt, but I quickly forgot about it and knew we had a lot of time.? Serge Ibaka had 27 points (New Career High) and 13 rebounds and Kevin Durant chipped in a near triple-double for 20 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists as the Thunder lost for the second straight night to a top Western Conference team. Oklahoma City lost to the Los Angeles Clippers last Wednesday night. (R.M.) Click here to view a list of other articles written by Ryan Medida. ![]() |
