NBA Preseason -- Vasquez to make Kings debut By Wilson Alday PhilBoxing.com Tue, 15 Oct 2013 Greivis. SACRAMENTO -- The Sacramento Kings will host the Los Angeles Clippers Monday night at the Sleep Train Arena here in downtown Sacramento. The Kings tote a 1-1 slate while the Clippers are 2-0 as both teams enter their third preseason game. An interesting highlight to Monday's tiff is the Kings debut of point guard Greivis Vasquez, who was acquired in an offseason trade last July, Greivis, a three-year veteran spent his rookie season with the Memphis Grizzlies before spending the next two in New Orleans. While Vasquez was out, Isaiah Thomas has played exceptionally well enough to retain the starting point guard slot. be a strong consideration to retain the starting point guard position. The friendly competition will be interesting sidelight as the season opener nears. With newly signed Carl Landry still nursing a thigh injury, the starting power forward slot is still up for grabs. Big men Patrick Patterson and Jason Thompson are making strong cases in a competitive battle. Thompson appears to have the lead, but Patterson needs to improve his numbers (3.5 rebounds per 24.5 minutes) in order to grab the starting spot. The Clippers comes into Sacramento led by new head coach Doc Rivers, a defensive minded tactician who could squeeze more from All-Stars Chris Paul and Blake Griffin. Both teams are looking to build their team chemistry tonight, as the Kings stride to make vast improvements throughout the preseason. This NorCal and SoCal exhibition game is only the beginning of what the season has in store for this budding West coast rivalry. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Wilson Alday. |
