ALA-Cobra Boxing: Bestudio outpoints Alivio

PhilBoxing.com

MANILA (PNA) -- Up-coming super-featherweight Rene Bestudio came up with a routine unanimous decision victory over Jonel Alivio in the 10-round main dish of the inaugural presentation of the Cobra-ALA Promotions ?Tunay Na Lakas? Luzon Boxing Tour Saturday at the Mandaluyong City Gymnasium.

The 29-year-old Bestodio of the host Tiger City Gym proved yo be the more aggressive fighter from the opening bell on in earning the nods of all three judges?98-90, 96-92 and 97-91 in raising his ring record to 16-5-4 win-loss-draw with 5 KOs.

Only Alivio?s effective counter-punching ability that came in sporadic fashion though saved the Empire Boxing Gym of Makati City campaigner from total annihilation.

A cluster of three abbreviated results marked success of the six-bout, 36-round extravaganza held for the first time to give never-heard boxers from Luzon the exposure they need in pursuing their fighting career.

Argie Toquero of Manny Pacquiao Gym of Manila pummeled Tiger City Gym?s Jimmy Aducal with a barrage of left and right combinations right in the opening round in disposing off his hapless opponents in two minutes and 12 seconds of the third round of only 51 seconds their 8-round supporting event., Richard Claveras of A. Gabriel Stable was more impressive though sending home Jesame dela Cerna, also of Mandaluyong, after only 51 seconds of the first round in another technical knockout triumph of the lone flyweight six-rounder.

Light-flyweight Philip Cuerdo, another power-punching pug representing A. Gabriel Gym, had Roderick Naduma at the palm of his hands in scoring a third round TKO in four rounds. Of the four undercards that pushed through, only the JC Francisco-Dexter Dimaculangan four-rounder lasted the distance with the former settling for a majority decision win over the latter.

The Robin Dingkong-Joel Lumangcag four-rounder was declared no contest after the Games and Amusements Board physician did not allow the former to cross path with the latter for failure to acquire medical clearance.

Owing to the success of the pilot project, ALA Boxing promotions Vice president Dennis Canete announced that the second leg of the ambitious project that is the brainchild of ALA president Michael Aldeguer and sponsored by Cobra Energy Drink will be held in Laguna this coming October.

?Marami pa tayong nakahandang proyekto hanggang early next year,? Canete said during Friday?s SCOOP Sa Kamayan session at the Kamayan Restaurant-Padre Faura. ?Nakahanda na rin ang third stop sa Makati City in November, Rizal province in December and Cavite City in January.?
