UNUSUAL WORLD TITLE FIGHT IN HOME OF ?PINOY PRIDE?
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Thu, 01 Aug 2013

There will be an unusual world title fight at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Cebu, the regular home of ALA Promotions and ABS-CBN?s highly successful ?Pinoy Pride? series when an African world champion fights a Japanese challenger for the WBO bantamweight title.
The title fight reportedly had to be brought to the Philippines because despite its recognition of the WBO, the Japan Boxing Commission which isn?t enamored with the Kameda's father who has been banned for life in Japan, said the fight could not be staged in Japan because it is not a mandatory but a voluntary defense by Namibia? champion Paulus Ambunda.
Ambunda will be making his first defense of the title he won from Thailand?s Pungluang Sor Singyun last March 2.
The Thai had earlier won the vacant crown in a battle with Filipino AJ ?Bazooka? Banal at the Mall of Asia Arena, scoring a 9th round TKO on October 20, 2012.
The 32 year old Ambunda who has a record of 20-0 with 10 knockouts faces 22 year old Tomoki Kameda, the youngest of three brothers who have made a name for themselves in the ring, with Tomoki undefeated with a record of 27-0 with 18 knockouts.
Kameda is a skilled fighter known for his footwork and solid defense having won all of of his 27 professional bouts; 18 inside the distance. He is a skilled, defensive fighter and has good footwork.
Ambunda, on the other hand is a tough fighter who keeps the pressure on his opponent and has fought some tough opponents in his career.
WBO president Franciso ?Paco? Valcarcel will be at special ringside for the title fight. He flew back to Cebu from Manila this morning after being a guest of ABS-CBN?S Gabby Lopez at dinner last night at the Intercontinental Hotel in Makati.
