A spent Drian Francisco suffers UD loss against Chris Avalos By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Sat, 13 Jul 2013 Drian Francisco was hanging on for dear life in the 10th and final round of his fight tonight against Chris Avalos. He was losing steam as the tough fight between the two comes to a close. He was clinching and holding against a rampaging, young foe that is vent on knocking him out at the Texas Station Casino in Las Vegas. Francisco, 30, from Sablayan, Mindoro survived that final round but he was unable to win the most important fight of his career against Avalos who took the fight by way of a Unanimous Decision with scores of 96-94, 97-93 and 97-93 on all three judges at ringside. Francisco started strong, landing the cleaner blows that consisted of right uppercuts and body shots that scored on his opponent. The Filipino fighter was throwing some awkward punches that are at times effective against Avalos in tonight?s co-headliner that was broadcasted live in the United States through ESPN. Avalos was aggressive from the start, stalking Francisco with jabs that snapped the Filipino?s head backwards. He did not shy away from the action even when he was on the receiving end of Francisco?s heavy artillery. The 23 year old Avalos showed superior conditioning against Francisco who began to tire in Round number 6. The Californian continued his relentless pursuit of his tiring opponent, capitalizing in the final rounds of the fight. By the 10th, Francisco was helpless against Avalos who threw combinations after combinations on him. Referee Tony Weeks kept a close eye on Francisco who was clinching and ducking against Avalos? attack. With the win, Chris Avalos also garnered a regional super bantamweight belt- the vacant WBO/NABO strap. For Francisco, it is back to the drawing board for him and his new team, as they try to bounce back from this defeat. But there will be plenty of uncertainties for him after this loss. One of which is a possible lawsuit that is being threatened by his former manager in the Philippines who affirms that the boxer has still a valid contract with him.
