Rolly Lunas is ready to roll in America

PhilBoxing.com

Lunas.
Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) bantamweight champion and WBC rated Rolly Lunas is in search of greener pastures both in boxing and in his personal life when he decided to move to the United States three months ago.

?Gusto ko kasi ipagpatuloy dito yung career ko, dito ko talaga ipagpatuloy sa America. Kasi parang sa Japan, di ko matutupad yung mga pangarap ko sa boxing,? said Lunas in an interview with Philboxing.

(I want to continue my career here in America, because I don?t think I can achieve my dreams in boxing in Japan.)

The 29 year old Bicolano spent most of his time in Japan, signing with a known Japanese promoter and even carried his handler?s name at one point. But that is all in the past now, as Lunas is looking forward to further his stalled career.

Lunas relocated to San Diego, California last April and signed with boxer manager-trainer, Vince Parra. Parra also handles the careers of Filipino fighters, Mercito and Dondon Gesta.

?Komportable ang loob ko kay Vince at mabait naman si Vince at siyempre, panatag naman yung loob ko kay Vince kasi may alam siya sa boxing. Nararamdaman niya yung nararamdaman ng boxer,? stated Lunas.

(I am comfortable with Vince and he is also a nice guy. I feel comfortable with him because he knows boxing and he feels what we boxers go through.)

Lunas has been training nonstop since arriving in San Diego and he is looking forward to break his almost ten month layoff from the ring.

?Hungry na hungry na ako na lumaban. Pinaghahandaan namin kung ano ang dumating agad na laban sa amin.?

(I am very hungry to fight. We are getting ourselves ready for any fight that might come our way.)

Lunas is prepared to fight at this time, maintaining his weight between the bantamweight (118 pounds) and super bantamweight (122 pounds) limit and is ready to jump in the ring if called to action.

Parra who is also Lunas? trainer has high praises to his newly signed ward, describing him as ?the best kept secret at 118-22.?

?Fans in the US will love his style, great power. We believe he can win titles at 118 and 122. He's hungry and works hard, a real pro,? says Parra.

?He's had a tough career, (He?s) been taken advantage of a lot. I watched him fight and he is just a guy who loves to fight. In one fight he dropped a guy with his jab. I was sold. This guy will be champ,? added the young trainer-manager.

Lunas is optimistic that his fortune will be different here and that he will find the success that has eluded him in Japan here in the Land of Milk and Honey.

?Ang expectation ko po ay malayo ang mararating ko dito sa boxing. Nandito yung pangarap ko para matupad ko yung sa pagsikat ko sa boxing.

(I am expecting that I can prosper here in boxing. This is where I can realize my dreams of being known in boxing.)
