Jun Doliguez to train in the US By Dennis U. Eroa PhilBoxing.com Thu, 25 Apr 2013 Doliguez. JUST LIKE that. Manny Pacquiao?s provincemate Jun "Hercules" Doliguez is no longer fighting Indon boxing hero Daud "Stone" Yordan for the IBO featherweight title. Jordan (30-3, 23 knockouts) avoided Doliguez (15-0-1, 11 knockouts) for the longest time and paid the price for it. To the shock of his fans, Yordan suffered a stunning 12th round knockout against South African Simpiwe Vetyeka (24-2-0) last April 14 at the Jakarta Indoor Tennis Stadium. This surprising development put into shambles the planned June encounter between the Sarangani rising star and Yordan. Not to despair, though. Youthful boxing promoter Elmer Anuran of the Touch Gloves Boxing Gym in Agoncillo, Batangas is sending the power-punching Doliguez to train in the United States next month. Doliguez celebrated his 23rd birthday last April 23. He is regarded as one of the prime prospects to give the Philippines a world title. With his fearsome power, it is common knowledge in the boxing circles that other boxers try to avoid clashing fists with Doliguez. Anuran, also president of the Saved by the Bell Promotions, said Doliguez will be joined by super featherweight Robert Gonzales (21-2, 12 knockouts) in the US. According to Anuran, Saved by the Bell is working closely with Zanfer Promotions to chart the career of Doliguez. "The US stint is part of a grand plan to give exposure to Doliguez in Mexico and the US. Zanfer and SBB will leave no stone unturned to make Doliguez a world champion," Anuran concluded. In an interview, Doliguez said he is very thankful to SBB and Zanfer for charting his career. "I was confident in besting Yordan," said Doliguez, who idolizes Pacquiao. "I remain confident that my time will come. I am in good hands and I have to do my part by training hard." Click here to view a list of other articles written by Dennis U. Eroa. |
