Ex-rugby kid, come backing title challenger headline Sunday bouts in Mandaluyong City By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Sat, 20 Apr 2013 Pumicpic (R) and Concepcion. Boxing promoter and manager Anson Tiu Co believes in second chances. His second boxing event at the Muntinlupa Sports in Muntinlupa City this Sunday is a proof of that. Tiu Co?s Shape-Up Boxing Promotions? featured bouts this weekend will be headlined by fighters who were granted another break in their career by the young businessman and boxing promoter. It will feature former ?rugby boy? (solvent inhaling street kid) turned boxer and now World Boxing Council Youth Silver bantamweight champion Richard Pumicpic and returning former high profile Filipino title challenger, Bernabe ?Abe? Concepcion. Pumicpic will stake his title against Indonesian challenger Junior Bajawa (14-17 KO) while Concepcion attempts at a comeback after a string of disappointing defeats abroad against another Indon fighter, Boido Simanjuntak (16-17-1, 5 KOs). Tiu Co started following the career of Pumicpic in 2012 when he was introduced to him by boxing coach, Artemio Del Rosario Jr. or ?Mang Tembong? as he is fondly called in the local boxing scene. Pumicpic 22, who used to roam the streets of Mandaluyong City with a bottle of solvent in hand won his belt against Thai fighter, Ratchasak Kokietgym last year, downed his opponent twice in the 9th, en route to a TKO victory in Thailand. Concepcion (31-6-1, 17 KO) meantime is fighting his second straight local bout after figuring in disappointing title fights abroad. The 25 year old Bicolano fighter knocked out fellow Filipino Richard Olisa six months ago in Batangas City after his most recent lost to now featherweight champ Mikey Garcia in Puerto Rico in March of last year. Tiu Co had doubts signing Concepcion after he was released by Top Rank and then Manny Pacquiao?s MP Promotions after the defeat to Garcia. He even turned him down at first. But a common friend of the two persisted in convincing the promoter to take a look at Concepcion which he finally agreed to. ?At first, I was convinced that Abe has already lost the passion in him, that he has to prove me wrong. Let's just say that under my observation so far, he is showing a lot of positive signs.? said Tiu Co. On Sunday, Pumicpic and Concepcion will not only have to show their mettle against their respective opponents, they will also have to show that they have earned the opportunities that have come their way. ?Well, I wish both of them well. And if they prove that they really want to reach their ambition, well, I?ll be supporting them all the way.? stated Tiu Co. The boxing card this Sunday starts at 5 in the afternoon and it will be covered by TV network, GMA. You can reach the author at rrmaze24@aol.com and on Twitter @Freemazon910.
