Broner's star continues to shine with a KO win against Rees By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Sun, 17 Feb 2013 Atlantic City, NJ - Adrien Broner is entertaining outside of the ring but he is also entertaining in the ring. Tonight at the Boardwalk Hall Arena, boxing's next superstar displayed that he can back up his bravado with a decisive 5th round stoppage of tough Welshman, Gavin Rees (37-1-1, 19 KOs). Broner (25-0, 21 KOS) endured two hard rounds against Rees,32, who hit him with good combinations to the body and head. Rees was deceptively quick at the start of the bout and scored with a bounty of punches in the initial two rounds of the fight. The younger and taller Broner used his timing against an attacking Rees in the 3rd round, tagging his counterpart with hard hooks. He pinned Rees in the ropes and unleashed a flurry of shots against the now defensive fighter from the United Kingdom. A perfect counter of a right hand lands for the twenty three year old Broner which floored Rees immediately. Rees recovered but took extra punishment from his American counterpart in the remainder of the round. The end came for Rees in the next round as Broner finished the job in Round Number 5. A flurry of hits to the head emanated from Broner and a shot to the body sent Rees to the canvas again in the round. Rees recovered once again but Broner jumped on him with combinations to the head and body which floored him again. His corner then intervened and threw in the towel to the delight of Broner and his fans that trooped here in New Jersey. The unbeaten Broner retained his WBC Lightweight belt with the impressive victory but more importantly gave the sport a good, exciting display of skills against a smaller but game opponent in Rees.
