Doliguez tests Yordan

PhilBoxing.com

ONLY the approval of sportsman Elmer Anuran is needed so that the planned March 30 slugfest between Indon boxing hero Daud Yordan ang fast-rising Pinoy featherweight Jun ‘‘Hercules’’ Doliguez will happen at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.

‘‘I am making sure that everything is in order in the contract sent by Dragon Fire Promotion,’’ stressed the youthful Batangueño, who founded the party list group ALA-Eh. ‘‘The fight is going to happen.’’

Anuran, whose Touch Gloves Boxing Gym is known for moulding future champions, expects an action-packed fight between Yordan (30-2, 23 knockouts) and Doliguez (15-0-1).

‘‘First of all, I would like to thank Dragon Fire for giving Doliguez the chance to fight the reigning champion. Indeed. Dragon Fire is a tremendous force in boosting boxing not only in Singapore but in Asia,’’ said Anuran. He also thanked the Indonesian camp for acknowledging that talent and skills of Doliguez, who topped a poll of Filipino featherweights on probable foes of Yordan.

Anuran said Doliguez has the power to knock out the Indon hero, who hails from Sukadana, West Kalimantan, Indonesia.
‘‘For sure, Doliguez is the underdog here. Yordan is a very crafty boxer. He has the edge in experience and also the power to flatten a rival. But my ward is ready to do battle and judging from the results of his previous fight, Doliguez can spring a surprise,’’ said Anuran.

The 21-year-old Doliguez is training under the watchful eyes of veteran Benny dela Peña at Touch Gloves in Agoncillo, Batangas. He trains with world-rated Al Sabaupan and Drian Francisco, who is carving a name in the United States and Mexico.

‘‘ I am glad that the fight is turning into reality. I respect Yordan because he respects Filipino boxers. But I want to become world champion someday and this is a giant step in fulfilling my dream,’’ said Doliguez.

Doliguez, 5-foot-7, admitted that besting the Indon is an uphill battle. ‘‘Judging from Yordan’s past victories, he’s very skillful. But my team has put an effective plan to neutralize him,’’ said Doliguez.
