Undercard Results at The Home Depot Center for Donaire-Nishioka! By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Sun, 14 Oct 2012 Carson, CA - The fights at the Home Depot Center here in Southern California started at around four in the afternoon with fans lining outside of the stadium an hour before that. The much anticipated double header will feature Super Lightweight sluggers Brandon Rios vs. Mike Alvarado and Asian stars Nonito Donaire vs. Toshiaki Nishioka in the main event. Cesar Garcia vs. Saul Rodriguez A good 1st round opened the night between Super Featherweights Cesar Garcia (6-12-0-1, 1 KO) and Saul Rodriguez (6-0, 5 KOs). The undefeated Rodriguez was successful with his body shots in the fight which opened an opportunity to go to the head for him. He pounded Garcia with some vicious shots in the head afterwards. But an accidental clash of heads stopped the match which opened a cut and ended the fight prematurely. The fight was ruled a Technical Draw under California rules. Katrell Straus vs. Ronald Ellis The second bout of the night is a scheduled Super Mid match between Straus (2-2, 1 KO) and the undefeated Ellis (3-0, 3 KOs). Ellis eked out a Unanimous Decision victory with a complete shutout of Straus in 4. The scores were, 40-36 in all three of the cards. Eliseo Durazo vs. Trevor McCumby The undefeated McCumby dropped Durazo with a left hook in the initial round of their 4 round Light Heavy tilt. McCumby pounded on his foe after the knockdown which floored Durazo again. The referee called the fight after seeing enough punishment in the first giving McCumby a TKO victory. The time of stoppage was 1:40 of the first. Javier Garcia vs. Jose Roman A war between two gritty warriors in the Lightweight Division ended in a Technical Draw between Javier Garcia (8-2-1, 7 KOs) and Jose Roman (14-0, 11 KOs). Both fighters scored a knockdown each in the scheduled 8 rounder. Garcia dropped Roman in round 1 but Garcia returned the favor in the next round. A cut opened in Garcia's left eye in the 3rd which oozed bright red blood. The wound got bigger as the round went on forcing the ringside physician to look at it after the end of the round. The doctor advised referee Pat Russell to end the fight which he did. The fight under California rules is ruled a Technical Draw because it did not go beyond four rounds. The ending to the exciting fight drew frustration from the crowd here at the venue. Pavel Miranda vs. Jose Benavidez Jr. Undefeated top prospect Jose Benavidez Jr. (16-0, 13 KOs) escaped a scary 8th and final round against Pavel Miranda (19-7-1, 7 KOs) in an 8 round Super Lightweight battle. Benavidez got hit and hurt by a combo to his head by Miranda in a bout he is leading from the get go. The young prospect wisely held as his foe rained punches on him. A visibly shaken Benavidez held desperately against a rampaging Miranda to finish the round and the fight. Benavidez started strong with his successful jabs against Miranda early in the bout and landed accurately against his foe. In the end, it was what matter as he scored a Unanimous Decision victory with three scores of 79-73 over a tough foe. Jose Angel Beranza vs. Evgeny Gradovich Undefeated Mexican Russian Gradnovich (13-0, 7 KOs) out of Oxnard, California scored a hard earned victory over veteran Mexican Featherweight Jose Angel Beranza (35-24-2, 27 KOs). The two fighters figured in a painful slugfest starting in the 6th round which awaken the crowd here in the open arena of the Home Depot Center. Both fighters exchanged hard and vicious head shots against each other which delighted the crowd here at the venue. A bruising three rounds followed with each fighter scoring telling blows of his own. Gradnovich with the strength of his overall performance scored a UD win with scores of 79-73, 79-73 and 80-72 over the game veteran.
