Amit of Mandaue City, remained on track for a second world 10-ball crown after the Cebuana billiards ace stormed into the Last 16 of WPA (World Pool-Billiard Association) 4th Annual Yalin Women's World 10-Ball Championship yesterday at the Robinson's Galleria in Ortigas. The 29-year-old Amit, playing under the banner of sportsman/businessman Aristeo ?Putch? Puyat reached the Final 16 by beating countryman 13-year-old Cheska Centeno of Zamboanga City, 8-5, in an all Filipino do-or-die match in the Last 24. Amit took the first rack but Centeno quickly leveled the count at 1-all. Then Centeno won the third rack before Amit tied the match at 2-all count. However, Centeno won the next two racks for a 4-2 lead. "May future y'ung bata (Cheska Centeno). Magaling saka may puso sa laro. Kailangan lamang niya ng much more exposure sa International competition," said the Cebu native Amit, who also won Women's World 10-Ball Championship four years ago. Because of the winner's break format, Amit waited her moment then won the next four racks for a 6-4 commanding lead. "Buti na lamang winner's break format kaya may pagkakataon makahabol ang isang player," added Amit, a former Makati City call center employee. But the teen-ager from Zamboanga City fought back to close the gap at 6-5 count after winning the 11th rack. Amit never looked back winning the last two racks en route to a 8-5 victory. Her next assignment is L.H. Shan of Chinese-Taipei. Shan topped Group 8 with unbeaten 5-0 record to made it automatically in the Last 16. Also advancing in the Last 16 with impressive 5-0 slate in their group matches are Yu Ram Cha of Korea (Group 1), 2010 World 10-ball queen Jasmin Ouschan of Austria (Group 2), X.T.Pan of China (Group 3), S. M. Chen of China (Group 4) and X.F. Fu of China (Group 5). Y.T. Chan of Chinese-Taipei made it to the Final 16 after edging Amit in so called tie breaker of total racks won during their Group 7 matches on Wednesday. Chan had a better 29 total racks won against Amit's 28. The duo tallied 4-1 identical record. Amit only setback at the hands of Chan, 4-6. S.S.Liu of China routed Y.C. Lin of Chinese-Taipei in the tie breaker to made it to the Last 16. Liu had a better 26 total racks won against Lin's 25. Both also tallied 4-1 identical record in Group 6.
