PhilBoxing.com Wed, 15 Aug 2012

The boxers for the August 16 Mandaluyong City fight card had a courtesy call with Mayor Benhur Abalos last Tuesday.Mayor Abalos said that he wants a partnership with Joven Sports Promotion and expressed his 100 percent support for the promotional company to stage a fight card every month in Mandaluyong City. He also gave advice to the boxers to work hard during training and to avoid vices and drugs.
Mayor Abalos is also the owner of a Triple Crown Winner racehorse "Hagdan Bato". So, just like racehorses, he said that boxers should be closely monitored in their training regimen and nutrition.Mayor Abalos is also very proud of the fact that it was in Mandaluyong where Manny Pacquiao started his boxing career at the Mandaluyong City Gymnasium where he had the majority of his early fights. He hopes that with his support for Philippine boxing that Mandaluyong City will produce another boxer like Manny Pacquiao.
The card?s main event will feature Vincent ?Popeye? Palicte (14-3-1, 7 KOs) vs. Frederix Rodriguez (8-2-1, 6 KOs) for the vacant WBO Asia-Pacific bantamweight title. On the undercards, Aston Palicte, Vincent?s younger brother, will fight Mark Joseph Costa (4-5-2, 1 KO). Also penned to see action are Jerwin Ancajas vs. John Mark Bautista, Jerson Luzarito vs. Marzon Cabilla, Philippine junior welterweight champion Adones ?The Undertaker? Cabalquinto vs. Jaypee Ignacio in a non-title contest, and Joebert Alvarez against Nelson Llanos.
