Gerald Washington Wins his Pro Debut

Gerald Washington, a heavyweight from San Jose, CA, won his pro debut with an easy knockout of a fighter named "Delong". Washington is being handled by Al Heymon, adviser of Floyd Mayweather and manager to many other champions and boxers.

Paul Mendez vs. Leshon Simms (Super Middleweights)

Round One: Simms moving around a lot while Mendez tries to land jabs from the outside. Neither landed any significant punch in the round but Mendez?s aggression and his jab likely won that round. 10-9 Mendez.

Round Two: Mendez starts to work the body more and is throwing more power shots with more authority. Simms continued to back up and not put much of a resistance to Mendez?s aggression. Mendez?s right hand won the second round. 10-9 Mendez.

Round Three: Mendez?s best round so far as he landed clean body shots that have seemed to bother Simms. Mendez picked up the pace in this round. Mendez scores huge with a left hook to the head and strong right hand to the body. Dominate round by Mendez. Mendez 10-9.

Round Four: Simms landed his best shot so far with a right hook to the body. Mendez continued to be the effective aggressor. Simms has been able to connect with one or two hooks but it?s not enough to stop Mendez?s aggression. Simms had his best round so far, but it wasn?t enough to win the round. Mendez 10-9.

Round Five: Simms was not running as much as in the previous rounds and was able to land some decent jabs. The two have some good exchanges. Even round for the most part. Simms landed a nice combination at the end of the round to steal a close round. Simms 10-9.

Round Six: Last round. Doctor checked a cut on Simms, but allowed Simms to continue. Both went for broke now and tried to knock each other out. Simms misses with a wide right hook to the body and caught Mendez with a short left hook. Simms finished the round strong. He didn?t hurt Mendez but landed some solid combinations. Simms just started the fight out too slow. Simms 10-9.

Judges all score it 59-55 for the winner Paul Mendez. Mendez looked decent early mostly because Simms put up little offense.

Next up is the Showtime Extreme Televised Undercards and later Showtime Championship Boxing. Stay tuned for more live updates from San Jose.
