RESULTS FROM MANDAUE: AGUELO KO?S TUBIGON, VALERO STOPS BASTASA

PhilBoxing.com

MANDAUE CITY ? For three rounds Adonis ?TI Yamagata? Aguelo and Gadwin Tubigon exchanged hard punches at close quarters. But Aguelo?s edge in the power department unravelled in the fourth round when a stiff right uppercut and a right hook sent Tubigon backing up into the ropes.

Aguelo unleashed hard hooks to the ribs and Tubigon crumbled. Referee Teddy Alivio reached the ten count at the 1:20 mark. Aguelo, who fights out of the TI Cebu Gym of Mandaue City, got the Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) featherweight belt and a possible regional title fight. Trainer Brix Flores told philboxing that Japanese promoter and boxing patron Akira Sato plans to stage a WBO Oriental title bout for Aguelo sometime in August.

Aguelo?s stablemate, Gerpaul ?TI Yamagata? Valero won by TKO in the second round against Michael Bastasa. A three punch combination sent Bastasa down in round one. In the second, Valero fired a sharp left hook that sent Bastasa reeling towards his corner prompting Referee Ben Necesario to stop the contest at 1:02.

Jason Egera beat Edison Serrano by TKO in the second round. Egera, a southpaw from Siaton,Negros Oriental, swarmed all over Serrano from the opening bell and knocked him down once.

In the second, Egera?s onslaught continued and Serrano?s corner threw in the towel. Time ? 2:32.

TI Yamagata ?Dodong? Masashi of Japan scored his first win in Cebu at the expense of Jaime Bermiso. Body shots made Bermiso decide not to answer the bell for the third round.

In a very entertaining four round battle, Jayvee Galea edged Roel Sumabong by unanimous decision. Galea?s left hook sent Sumabong down twice in the opening round. Sumabong survived and they continued to trade punches in the subsequent rounds.

In the fourth, Sumabong knocked Galea down with a hard right straight. Galea looked wobbly but he recovered and managed to hear the final bell. Galea won by a point ? 37-36 ? on all three judges? cards.

In the opening bout of the evening, TI Yamagata Ardie Boyose used his long reach to outpoint Robert Awitin. The scorecards read 59-55, 58-56 and 59-55.

The fights were held Saturday at the Mandaue Sports Complex. This boxing promotion also featured entertaining group dance numbers and was broadcast live on the internet. The fights were supervised by the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) of Cebu.
