'DUGONG KAMPEON': PENALOSA AND BUCKIE MAKE WEIGHT

PhilBoxing.com

CEBU ? Dodie Boy Pe?alosa,Jr is looking forward to fighting in the United States this June. But he needs to score an impressive win this Saturday against Alex Buckie of Indonesia. Pe?alosa,Jr weighed in at the superbantamweight limit of 122 lbs while Buckie stepped in at 119 lbs for their ten round non-title bout at the Mandaue City Sports Complex.

Plans for Pe?alosa,Jr to box in the U.S have been derailed twice. Two years ago he signed a contract with TKO boxing promotions but the company went under. Last year, there were plans for Dodie,Jr to fight on the the Pacquiao-Marquez III undercard but he suffered a knockdown in the opening round against Donriel Marcos prompting his handlers to step on the brakes and re-evaluate the unbeaten boxer's career. After stopping Thai Superjames Singmanasak in one round last January, Dodie,Jr is once again setting his sights on Las Vegas.

For the co-main event, Philippine featherweight champion Michael Fare?as weighed 127 lbs while former WBO Asia-Pacific titlist Jayson Egera stepped in at 128 lbs for their ten round non-title contest.

Dave Pe?alosa (120 lbs) will face Jumar Torreon (121 lbs) in a four rounder. What makes this match-up intriguing is that Torreon was knocked out by Dodie,Jr in a single round two years ago at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel.

Torreon took time off from boxing after that fight to concentrate on his studies and graduated from high school. Now, he is making a comeback against another Pe?alosa.

Another match-up to watch in the undercard involves Buhay Boksingero lt.flyweight division winner Joebert Alvarez (108.5 lbs) against Renren Tesorio (109.5 bs). Tesorio was initially reported as Renen Ruiz.

Rounding up the supporting bouts are Raymund Empic (116 lbs) vs Rommel Banquirigo (114 lbs) - 6 rounds, Aldrin Guara (125 lbs) vs Jerome Casas (122 lbs) - 6 rounds, Jack ?Golden Boy? Tepora (112 lbs) vs Raymund Fermin (110.75 lbs) - 4 rounds, Sherwin Caday (111.5 lbs) vs Alex Belonguel (111.75 lbs) - 4 rounds, Jayson Borleo (119 lbs) vs Jun Ryan Quimbo (117 lbs) - 4 rounds, Margarito Moyo (101 lbs) vs Roel Sumabong (103.5 lbs) - 4 rounds and John Kenan Villaflor (112.25 lbs) vs Sherwin Boquecosa (112.5 lbs) - 4 rounds.

The weigh-in was held at the Games and Amusements Board (GAB-CEBU) ofice and supervised by Geln Agena and Rolando Mendoza.

Fights start at 6 PM and TV coverage is courtesy of GMA.
